The author tells us in this important work that "general literature has been consulted in the preparation of these pages, and proper consideration given to the treatment recommended." He also goes on to state that, "with the better general knowledge of bacteriology and its relations to cause and effect pointing the way, in many cases, to their more rational treatment, to say nothing of the new remedies, and operations advocated in the past few years, are sufficient reasons in our judgment, for the preparation of this book."
